Music

At Faith Baptist Church of Raymore (FBC) we believe that the most important part of music ministry is the congregational singing and that the most important musical instrument on the face of the earth is the one our Creator/God built into each of our bodies - the human voice.  With over 200 exhortations given to the people of God to sing in the scripture, we believe that the purpose of music is not the entertainment of man, but the glory of God.

FBC believes that both the words we sing and the accompanying music are significant.  The words are primary and should be doctrinal in content, theologically sound and honoring unto the Lord, while the music is supportive and lifts our attention to the words being sung.  Music itself is a language that communicates and we agree with author Dan Lucarini who writes, “I am now convinced that God will not accept our worship when it is offered with music styles that are also used by pagans for their immoral practices. If I am wrong, why was he so harsh in judging Israel when they sacrificed to him using the pagan high places and rituals?"

You are invited to attend and have an active part in a service at FBC through congregational singing.  We encourage all participants to prepare their hearts to be engaged both spiritually and mentally that they may "sing with the Spirit" and "with understanding also." (1 Cor. 14:15)  This will not only honor the Lord our God, but also invite a greater working of God in the climax of the service, the preaching of God's Word and the response of the human heart to it.  Charles Spurgeon writes, “Costly offerings and the charms of melody are not the things which God desires: holiness is his music, and a broken heart his chosen sacrifice.”
